old_courseAs I sit down to write this, the Lakehouse Boys are less than a week away from our trip to St Andrews, Scotland. Luckily, most of the final details have been taken care of. Kevin Low of the Monarchs House has arranged all of the transportation and we have scheduled our dinners. After arriving late afternoon on September 7th, we will head right over to the Old Course to take photos and enjoy a pint or two at the Jigger Inn. Then it is back to the house for a good night's rest as we get ready for 7 rounds in 6 days.

For the third-consecutive year, Golf Genius Software partnered with the Monarchs House in St Andrews, Scotland, to offer the opportunity to win a free week to one lucky GolfTripGenius user and seven friends. This year’s winner, Erik Rasmussen, chronicles winning the contest and his preparation for the trip in a series of blogs. This is the second in his series.

LakeHouse BoysThe LakeHouse Boys trip to Scotland is quickly approaching. Our group has been finalized, the schedule is set and clubs cleaned. Roy the chipping guy, Lars, Par Par McCarr, Frend, Ritsche, Moonlight Graham and Dennis (he really needs a nickname) will be joining me (Ras is my nickname if you are wondering) for 7 days at the home of golf. We leave Minneapolis on September 6th and arrive at the Monarchs House the next day. Par Par is going in early to see an English Premier League match and Frend is catching up with a buddy in London before the trip, but we will all be in St. Andrews on the 7th ready to play on the 8th. After arriving around dinnertime on the 8th, I expect that we will walk over to the Swilcan Bridge for some photos and then on to the Jigger Inn for a pint or two.

open trophyGolfTrippers take note. The British Open, or, more formally, The Open Championship, is being played on the links of Hoylake, or, more formally, Royal Liverpool Golf Club. It's the second-oldest seaside links golf course in England and a great members club. Luckily, visitors (read: you and your buddies) are welcome at Hoylake. You’ll enjoy not only an unforgettable round, but also an inviting 19th hole featuring the great Warsteiner pils on tap together with a long shelf of single malts arrayed before your thirsty eyes.

golf_juggleThe job of a PGA Professional is difficult to define. As the slogan goes, we “wear many hats”: instructor, merchandiser, club-fitter, manager, player, the list goes on. Every golf facility is unique and demands a customized plan of attack for success. The best PGA Professionals quickly identify what is required for the future success of their club.

2014-US-OPEN_LOGOGolf Genius Software user Billy Toy shares his power rankings for the U.S. Open. Will his picks prove Genius?

Honorable Mention: Matt Kuchar: Kuch started off the season on fire with multiple top fives, but has since cooled off after the Masters. He has had some success over the last four years with a top 30 finish in each, but could he finally add the U.S. Open to his resume? I expect a strong top-10 finish.

10)  Brandt Snedeker: If his putter gets hot...look out. He hasn’t been in the spotlight yet this year, but has had success at the U.S. Open with three straight top-15 finishes. Look for him to be on the leaderboard come Sunday.

2014-US-OPEN_LOGOFor buddy golf trippers, Pinehurst is easily one of the best destinations in the USA. You’ll be hearing plenty about the Sandhills as the world of golf’s spotlight turns to the “Home of American golf” this week and next for men’s and women’s U.S Opens set to be contested at Pinehurst #2.

Most golf architecture buffs and many veteran players, including Jack Nicklaus, consider this Donald Ross creation one of the very best layouts in the world. By acclamation, the 2011 restoration by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore has made a great course even better.
